We’re at that part in the year where we’re counting down the days to summer. Our body and mind knows it (and needs it). In fact, some people are one step ahead of bathing season, and many of them have chosen beaches in the Costa Blanca North.

The beaches with the blue flag distinction for this year 2022 have been announced. And, among the over 200km of beach in the Costa Blanca, there’s a good number of local representatives on this exclusive list. More specifically, there’s no more and no less than 74 blue flag beaches in the whole province of Alicante.

But before all else, what does this distinction mean? A blue flag is, above all else, a symbol of quality. To get one, a beach needs to meet certain criteria that are organised into 4 different blocks:

  • Environmental information and education.
  • Water quality.
  • Environment management
  • Safety and services.

The province of Alicante is always at the top of this list guaranteeing the quality of its coast. The secret? Because of the consistent effort from its towns to keep this honour, year after year. Want to discover the beaches that are here in Costa Blanca North? Well, keep reading whilst we add more place to your list to visit this summer!

Costa Blanca North, the blue flag cradle

Let’s start with one of the main fixtures on the list. Cala Moraig, in Benitachell, is one of the most well known beaches year after year and earning a blue flag each time. And of course, 2022 is no exception! Cala Moraig is a paradisical cove in Alicante. Turquoise blue waters flanked by cliffs that dominate this unique setting.

If we follow on to Teulada, there are 3 more beautiful beaches like El Portet, L’Ampolla and Les Platgetes. There’s also another place where you can enjoy a spectacular dip in a more secluded setting like in Cala Fustera. This little corner can be found in Benissa.

The city of Calpe also has several blue flag beaches. As well as enjoying its cuisine, you will also do so if you drop by La Fossa, Cantal Roig or Arenal Bol.  If you feel like heading north, you are spoilt for choice. In Denia, there are Les Bovetes, Les Marines, Marineta Casiana, Molins, Les Deveses and Punta Raxet. And in Jávea L’Arenal, La Grava and La Granadella. A visit to the latter is a must, especially: a beautiful paradise of turquoise and emerald tones. A bay of calm waters and incredible transparency.

Another must on your route to blue flag beaches is Altea. The Dome of the Mediterranean keeps its three famous beaches on this list: Cap Blanc, L’Espigó and La Roda.
