• The aim of the #WeSupportTheSDGs campaign is to act as a platform to boost awareness of the 2030 Agenda so that more people know about it and can work together towards achieving it.
  • Corporate management based on the SDGs helps create new business opportunities, improves stakeholder engagement, and promotes innovation.

On the 5th anniversary of the approval of the 2030 Agenda with its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), VAPF Group joins the #WeSupportTheSDGs campaign to raise awareness of these UN Goals, in collaboration with the Spanish Global Compact Network, an initiative to which it belongs. The aim is to contribute, through its alignment with the SDGs, as a platform to boost awareness of the Goals so that people know and work together towards them.

In 2016, VAPF Group joined the UN Global Compact initiative, the world’s largest sustainability initiative. Since the approval of 2030 Agenda in 2015, in addition to its commitment to promoting the Ten Principles, VAPF has worked on aligning its corporate management with the SDGs, in order to find new business opportunities, improve stakeholder involvement, and promote innovation.

VAPF Group, as one of the most established real estate groups in the province of Alicante with more than 55 years of experience, integrates the generation of economic welfare, environmental improvement and responsibility to society as part of its company goals.

In this regard, VAPF Group has established a series of commitments and good practices in line with its strategy. Among these, we highlight the use of innovation in our developments as a measure to combat climate change and its effects, the guarantee of quality and stable employment to promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, the various actions to ensure a healthy life and promote well-being for all ages, and the development of alliances to strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the Global Alliance for Sustainable Development.

With these types of initiatives, the Spanish Global Compact Network and its member organizations seek to contribute to the 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals, a task that, in these times of crisis and uncertainty, is the formula for creating the sustainable future that the world needs.

Boosting business contribution to sustainable development

It’s been five years since the United Nations General Assembly approved Agenda 2030 with its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – a unanimous decision by the 193 participating countries, including Spain. “Leave no one behind” is the core mission statement of the agreement. The SGDs propose to end poverty and hunger, reduce inequalities, and address urgent challenges such as climate change.

To achieve such an ambitious agenda, everyone must be involved: governments, businesses, civil society and citizens from all over the world. Its strength comes from the universal nature of the agreement and the ambition of its 169 goals. Achieving them requires an unprecedented effort by all sectors of society, and business has a particularly important role to play in this regard. Achieving the SDGs requires a combination of public sector, business, investor and civilian efforts.

With ten years left to achieve Agenda 2030 and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDAs), UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called on all sectors of society to mobilize for this “Decade of Action.”

The “Decade of Action” calls for accelerating sustainable solutions to the world’s major challenges; from poverty and gender equality, to climate change, inequality and closing the financial gap. Business has a very important role to play in this regard.
