The 33rd America's Cup will be held in Valencia, Spain, from 1 to 25 February 2010.
On 10 November 2009, the Geneva Nautical Society announced the regatta for the 33rd America’s Cup. On this occasion the competition will take the form of a 3 regatta duel between giant catamarans, as specified by the “Deed of Gift”(the basic document setting out the bases of the competition), and the winner of the trophy will be the boat which wins two out of the three regattas.
The first of the regattas between the two contestants is scheduled to take place in Valencia on Monday 8 February; the second on Wednesday 10 February 2010; and, if a third deciding contest has to take place, this will take place on Friday 12 February 2010.
The International Sailing Federation (ISAF) has already published the names of the five members of the International Jury for the 33rd America's Cup: David Tillett (Australia), John Doerr (Great Britain), Josje Hofland (Holland), Graham McKenzie (New Zealand) and Bryan Willis (Great Britain).
Although not yet 100% certain, the news that the America’s Cup, the most important sailing competition, will again take place in Valencian waters has been well received by Valencia and the government of the Community of Valencia.
Current champions the Swiss team Alinghi and American challenger Oracle have agreed to try to increase the number of regattas from three to seven.
Another opportunity to enjoy the waters of Valencia in February, and to explore the Community of Valencia more thoroughly.
Among the area’s attractions we recommend the province of Alicante, the municipality of Benitachell, between Javea and Moraira and, of course, the Cumbre del Sol residential complex where you can purchase a tailor-made detached property with fabulous sea views and set up a residence in Spain.
