Denia 2009 “Fiestas Mayores” Grand Fiestas

July sees the Grand Fiestas in Denia from 4 to 12 of the month, with “Bous a la Mar”, declared an event of National Tourism Interest. Set out below is a selection of events from the programme for Denia 2009 Fiestas, the full programme is available from the town’s tourist information offices.

- Saturday 4 July: The Fiestas Mayores begin at 19h when the rocket is let off to announce the bull-running, followed by the Bous a la Mar. At 1h, the Ibizan-style “White Fiestas” begin.

- Sunday 5 July: At 8h the underwater hunting contest, Denia coast. At 10h breakfast of sardines and beer offered by the ‘Mare de Deu’ Fiestas Committee in the harbour area. At 21h Latin dance show in the harbour marquee with professional dancer Luis Castro offering displays of bachata, merengue and Cuban dance.

- Monday 6 July: at 13h, Bous a la Mar; at 17h the bulls enter from Marqués de Campo Street and are run along the harbour promenade to the bull ring, followed by the Bous a la Mar event. At 19h, “Denia Milenaria” guided tour in German. At 21:30 and 23:30h, Dance Street Club and makeover workshop for teenagers from 13 to 18 years old.

- Tuesday 7 July: at 12h, paella competition in Marqués de Campo Street and at 13 and 19h, Bous a la Mar. At midnight, Grand Ibizan ‘Indian’ Party and fire-running.

- Wednesday 8 July: at 11:30h, Mass in honour of Saints of the Holy Blood in Iglesia de la Asunción, at 13h and 19h Bous a la Mar and at 21h Traditional Dances and Arabian choreography, belly dancing in the harbour marquee.

- Thursday 9 July: at 13 and 19h Bous a la Mar in the harbour area.
