Beaches and port marinas awarded Blue Flag status in 2009, Alicante province.

In the northern hemisphere, the International Blue Flag Jury 2009 has awarded 3338 Blue Flags, 2699 for beaches and 639 for port marinas. Sitting on this Jury, in addition to the FEE, IUCN, EUCC and ICOMIA, are UN Environment Agencies and WTO Tourism Agencies.

With 571 Blue Flags, 493 for beaches and 78 for port marinas, Spain keeps its leading position among the 34 participating countries in our hemisphere, a result which betters 2008’s by a total of 44 more Blue Flags - 38 for beaches and 6 for port marinas.

The Community of Valencia has won 101 awards, 89 for its beaches and 12 for its port marinas. Alicante province has won the highest number of Blue Flags of all the provinces of Spain.

  • Vila Joyosa: Varadero, Paradis, Bon Nou, La Caleta.
  • El Campillo: Carrer de la Mar.
  • Alicante: Sant Joan and Saladar
  • Elche: El Altet, Les Pesqueres-El Rebollo and La Marina.

  • Santa Pola: Varador, Calas del Este, Tamarit and LLevant.
  • Guardamar del Segura: La Roqueta and El Moncaro.
  • Orihuela: Flamenca, Cala Capitán, Cabo Roig, Campoamor, Barranco Rubio and Mil Palmeras.
  • Pilar de la Horadada: Jesuitas, Puerto, Las Villas-Higueras and Playa Conde.

Beaches awarded recognition for compliance with relevant legislation, accessibility, overall sustainability, cleanliness, information provision and progressive fairness… under standards agreed on a world-wide level. An award and an environmental label in recognition of meeting all the above standards.

Yet another reason to choose Alicante province for your holidays and second home location; it is the province with the highest number of Blue Flags in Spain.
