From 17 to 22 October Calpe celebrates its saint’s day ‘Santísimo Cristo del Sudor’ and the Moors and Christians event.

The Fiestas of ‘Santísimo Cristo’ and the Moors and Christians are almost upon us in Calpe. The re-enactment of the landing of the ships, the parliament, the parade, the dancing and the fireworks display will soon arrive.

The fiestas are organised by the Moors and Christians association and the Fiestas Committee which between them combine religious events, people’s events and historic re-enactments with much majesty and devotion. The fiesta of the Moors and Christians has a long history in Calpe, having been celebrated since 1977.

The most typical events of the fiestas are the entrance of the musical bands, the hoisting of the standards in the castle, the offering of candles, the mass and procession in honour of the patron Saint, the ship’s landing on Arenal-Bol beach, the representation of the “MIRACLE”, fireworks displays, dancing, children’s parade of Moors and Christians, grand parade of Moors and Christians.

The celebrations begin on Friday 17 October at 20:30h. Public declaration of opening of fiestas and raising of pennants in Plaza Mayor. Followed by procession through the streets and offering of candles.

Saturday 18 October at 19:00h. Grand entrance of the Moors and Christians and fireworks display on Arena-Bol beach.

Sunday 19 October, the fiestas continue with the ship’s landing at 11:00h, and the First Battle on Arenal-Bol beach.

Tuesday 21 October at 21:00h. The Parliament and the Second Battle and “Miracle” in Plaza Mayor in Calpe.

Wednesday 22 October, ceremonies in honour of ‘Santísimo Cristo del Sudor’. At 20:30h the Solemn Procession and, when this finishes, a spectacular fireworks display.
