Next weekend, 25 to 28 September, the IV National Open Kitesurfing Competition comes to Calpe. For the fourth year running, dozens of kites will arrive in Calpe to start the competition.
Potential competitors can enter the competition for just 40 €, and are some very reasonably priced packages including accommodation, bookings taken on 649 490 300. Entry fee includes lunch on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Prize money totals 3000 €. This competition is attended each year by a large number of specialists of all ages and nationalities.
In parallel with the competition, a number of different activities have been organised to live up the daytime: water activities, materials testing, fashion shows, and evening meals and parties.
For those unfamiliar with this sport, it is also called kiteboarding or flysurfing. It is a navigation sport which uses a traction kite attached to the surfer with four or five cables, some fixed to the ends of the control bar and others to the centre of it, permitting a board specially designed for this sport to skim across the water. It is an extreme sport which delights spectators, since high speeds are reached on the water and spectacular leaps are made.
Weather permitting, next weekend we have a date with the major kitesurfers on Arenal Bol beach in Calpe for the Ifach IV National Open Kitesurfing Competition.
