The Calpe Museum of Collections is staging an exhibition of toys and games made from wood and cardboard.
From 1 August to 30 October, the Calpe Museum of Collections is hosting an exhibition of toys and games made from wood and cardboard. It is one of the largest private collections in the country, comprising over 2500 articles from different countries.
Only toys made from wood, paper and cardboard have been selected. In previous times, this meant that these toys were accessible for all families, and particularly for low-income families.
Most of the toys and games on display belong to the first half of last century. Although there are some articles from other countries such as Germany and France, most were made in Spain, specifically in the Alicante area with reference to Denia's industry.
The collection belongs to Adolfo Santodomingo Garachana, who some years ago displayed a part of his collection in the Museum, toys and games of invention, robots and tin. A conscious decision has been made not to display any toys related to weapons or war.
The Collections Museum has a display area of only 50 m2 and is located inside the landmark Torreo de la Peca building. Since opening it has hosted numerous themed exhibitions on a visiting basis, and is a tourist attraction in Calpe Old Town.
