The Special Areas of the Costa Blanca, a program aimed at the mentally disabled and their families, concluded their services last September 17th, after having served during the summer almost thousand persons with this kind of handicap. This initiative has been a referent of the adapted tourism, attracting families from different places inside and outside Spain, that decide to plan their holidays in those towns where the disabled have more support to enjoy and become involved in their surroundings.
The 10 Special Areas Costa Blanca are a project by the Provincial Tourist Board and the Town Halls of the participating towns: Dénia, Calpe, Villajoyosa, El Campello, Alicante, Santa Pola, Orihuela and Pilar de la Horadada. This initiative aims the integration of the group of mentally disabled in the beaches of the province Alicante, as well as the opportunity for relatives and tutors to enjoy of some free time during the summer.
